USE CASE: IT Security – Monitoring Server Cabinets – Public Institutions
The customer’s requirements:
- Recording and evaluation of the measured values from 157 existing CMC systems, which are used to monitor the individual racks in the data center
- Alarming when threshold values are under/overrun for, among other things, current, voltage, load, and temperature, as well as in the event of unauthorized door opening
The technical implementation by NetDescribe:
The measured values of the CMC systems are queried as Splunk input via SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol).
The queries are performed in near real-time. Limiting factors are the CMC sensors, which technically do not allow a high query interval.
The evaluation and alarming is done using Splunk board resources. By visualizing the data center in a dashboard and the geographical representation of all server racks (from the building plan), the affected rack can be located immediately.
